French as a Second Language

Our district provides various programs to help students enhance their skills in French as a second language.

Registration

French Immersion registration for grade 1 and grade 6.

Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is now closed.

Curriculum

French Second Language instruction is mandatory from kindergarten through Grade 10. The curriculum aligns with the standards set by the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and is designed specifically for non-francophone students.

All students are automatically enrolled in the English Prime program. The French Immersion program has two entry points: Grade 1 and Grade 6. In certain cases, late registrations and transfers may be accepted into the French Immersion program.

English Prime Program

In this program, French is taught using pre-intensive, intensive, and post-intensive instruction, with weekly French instruction ranging from 9% to 60%, depending on the grade level.
