Construction to begin on new kindergarten to Grade 8 school in Campbellton

CAMPBELLTON (GNB) – Construction on the new kindergarten to Grade 8 school in Campbellton is set to get underway this spring, replacing two of the oldest schools in the province.
“Our students are the future leaders of New Brunswick,” said Premier Blaine Higgs. “This school will provide a high-quality environment for students in the Campbellton area to learn, grow and become equipped for their next stages of life.”
The new school on Arran Street, next to Sugarloaf Senior High School, has been designed to accommodate nearly 400 students. The school will replace Campbellton Middle School and Lord Beaverbrook School, which are 97 and 63 years old respectively.
“We are excited for construction to get underway to modernize the learning experience for students in Campbellton,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Bill Hogan. “Ensuring we can meet the educational needs of our students by updating aging infrastructure helps us on our path to building a better education system.”
Set to open in September 2026, the new facility will include amenities such as music and art rooms, technology rooms, science labs, a gym and an early childhood development room, in addition to a three-floor classroom wing.
“This new school will be a terrific addition to the Anglophone North School District,” said district superintendent Dean Mutch. “I am just so excited for this community. It will provide our students and staff with the most up-to-date learning environment and give them the encouragement to thrive as they dream, create and innovate.”
A sum of $16.4 million has been allocated in the 2024-25 capital budget to begin construction. The total project cost is estimated at $39.66 million.
