SUBJECT: Parent Code of Conduct & Communication of Concerns
EFFECTIVE: November 7, 2022
REVISED: April 7, 2026
PURPOSE: To develop and encourage acceptable channels of communication between families and staff/administration. To model acceptable, positive and respectful behaviour for students. To foster a comfortable and supportive environment in which students and staff can pursue education goals, social development, and positive mental health without the exposure to harmful or disrespectful behaviour or remarks- both in person and on social media.
APPLICATION:
This regulation applies to all adults within Anglophone North School District- parents, guardians, family members and members of the general community. This applies to in-behaviour in-person and online (i.e.: social media, messaging and email) and any instance that could have an impact on the school climate. This regulation works with but is not limited to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s Policy 703.
REGULATION:
When a question, concern, or complaint arises, the following steps must be followed to ensure fairness and prompt resolution. Discussions should use plain language and avoid blaming, inflammatory, or accusatory statements. Most concerns are resolved at the first level.
- Classroom Level – Concerns regarding individual students should first be directed to the classroom teacher.
- School Administration – If unresolved with the teacher, or if the concern is of a general school nature, it should be directed to the school principal or designate. Transportation concerns should also first be discussed with the principal, who may involve district transportation staff if needed.
- District Level – If the issue remains unresolved at the school level, it should be referred to the appropriate Director of Schools at the local Education Centre. When necessary, the appropriate manager or director may liaise with district leadership to support resolution.
- Superintendent – Failing resolution at the district level, the matter should be referred to the Superintendent. This is considered the final internal step.
- Appeal Process – See references.
This regulation is intended to enhance ASD-N’s continued efforts toward achieving a safe and positive learning and working environment in our schools.
Violations of the Parent Code of Conduct may result in a meeting between the parent, the school and/or district officials. In certain circumstances, violations may result in a parent being excluded from school property, school activities and any other school-related functions for the remainder of the school year (or a period deemed appropriate by district officials).
Each school should take steps to promote and communicate the Parent Code of Conduct to all students, parents, teachers, and members of the school community.
